Make every home a good investment, and every investment a great home

One third of Australians live in a rental home and one-in-eight own one, but the experience is often, well… not great. Renters have to shout to be heard. Property investors have little visibility or control over one of their most valuable assets. And property managers are shackled to antiquated technology that creates more cost, risk and busywork for their business than value for their customers. Nobody is happy.

So, we’re rebuilding property management from the ground up with a platform that delivers a better experience for everyone. Better investment outcomes for Australians trying to build wealth and gain financial independence. Better experiences for Australians who rent the place they call home. Better careers for property managers. And better growth opportunities for small businesses.

  • Help build a platform with a Data-centric, Machine Learning focus
  • Varied tech stack - Python, Java, Scala, React, React native, GraphQL
  • Melbourne CBD (or Sydney) offices, with work from home option

About Ailo

Ailo (https://ailo.io/) is a data-powered platform which makes the property management experience extraordinary. Utilising the largest single set of property management data, Ailo's technology empowers property management professionals to drive growth, improve their performance and increase profits. At Ailo our vision is to use our industry leading data insights and technology to reimagine the property management experience for agencies, landlords and tenants.

As a software engineer, you will be helping deliver the features for our next generation products and platform. You’ll be developing front-end and back-end code, quick prototypes, clean and production-ready solutions, as well as building robust infrastructure. Every day, our cross-functional teams are working collaboratively on building a platform that delivers new data intelligence to rental industry businesses, enabling them to improve customer experience and helping them grow.  We’re working with some large and varied data sets, which makes the day-to-day technical challenges really interesting and exciting.

What is Ailo’s tech stack?

  • Microservices architecture based on Docker
  • A spectrum of languages: Java, JavaScript, Python and Scala
  • Big Data and ML pipelines on Spark, Airflow and Kafka
  • React and React-Native front-end
  • RESTful and GraphQL APIs
  • Highly automated AWS Infrastructure
  • Full Continuous Integration and Delivery

How you’ll stand out from the crowd:

  • You’ll have written code before in a variety of different languages and enjoy learning new ones.
  • You’ll have commercial experience in developing custom built web-based platforms or products, ideally having worked with one or more of the following languages: Java, JavaScript, Scala and/or Python.
  • You’re a data-driven problem solver who really enjoys working with large data-sets, data structures, algorithms and object-oriented design.
  • You are focused on code quality, and prefer to follow engineering best practices such as CI/CD, writing unit tests/TDD.
  • You are interested in learning more about distributed architectures and microservices.
  • You are excited by the challenge of solving real world problems that potentially impact millions of users and the opportunity to improve everyone’s overall experience.
  • You’d really enjoy having the opportunity to own the solution and managing a feature from end-to-end.
  • You’ll enjoy working closely with the product team, UX designers and data scientists and the broader business to build a product that makes a real difference to our customers and their relationships.
  • You’ll enjoy keeping up to date with the latest technologies and bringing new ideas to the team.

What’s in it for you?

  • It’s a great place to learn. You'll work with people who are knowledgeable about great software design patterns and passionate about best practices in software development (and we hope you are too).
  • We are nonhierarchical, have a flexible working environment and strive to build a culture that empowers, supports and drives everyone to be their best.
  • You’ll be using ML algorithms to provide powerful and meaningful insights to customers.
  • We have a culture of continuous feedback and no blame. You'll need to be comfortable giving and receiving feedback as well as sharing your knowledge and experiences with the team.

If this role sounds anything like you please apply here or call Karunya on 0452155992 for a confidential discussion.

Please Note: We will not accept unsolicited CVs from recruitment agencies / 3rd parties and we will not be liable or responsible for any fees or costs associated with unsolicited CVs sent directly to line managers.

Reporting to the Design team lead, you’ll research and design product initiatives in a dedicated squad and be mentored by senior designers as you work alongside our incredible team of engineers, product managers, UI designers, marketing and your fellow product designers.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement appropriate research methods to gather feedback on concepts and interface usability
  • Identify and quantify customer needs and opportunities
  • Document and share customer research and discovery work with the broader team
  • Design usable and delightful solutions to genuine customer problems
  • Develop low-fi UI mockups, user flows and prototypes to communicate design ideas
  • Engage with product managers, UI designers and engineering teams on crafting solutions and subsequent delivery of designs
  • Work within and contribute to the development of the Ailo UI Design systems and patterns
  • Champion a cross-functional team culture
  • Keep abreast of competitor products and industry trends

Skills/Competencies

  • 2+ years experience as a Product designer (or similar role)
  • Problem-solver at heart and able to empathise with our users
  • Conduct and synthesise customer research
  • Detail-oriented and collaborative
  • Familiarity with interaction design and information architecture
  • Great communicator (visual and verbal)
  • Creative and innovative

  • Proven knowledge of tools for prototyping and UI design like Figma, Marvel etc
  • Analytical mind with a business acumen

Product Designer

One third of Australians live in a rental home and one-in-eight own one, but the experience is often, well… not great. Renters have to shout to be heard. Property investors have little visibility or control over one of their most valuable assets. And property managers are shackled to antiquated technology. Nobody is happy. So, we’re rebuilding the $53B property management industry from the ground up with a ground-breaking, data-powered platform for payments, accounting, communication and work that delivers a better experience for everyone.

Founded in 2017, we’re on a mission to make every home a good investment and every investment a great home. So far, we’ve built the largest property management dataset in Australia and have helped more than 100,000 property managers, property investors and renters work better together on Ailo.

The Role

We're looking for a Mid level Product Designer to help us bring to market a world-first, single platform that connects homeowners, tenants, tradespeople, property managers and real estate business owners in one place, in real-time.

You’ll be responsible for creating experiences across our mobile and web applications that help millions of Australians have a clearer understanding of their rental homes and their investment properties – and you’ll help property managers leverage technology to deliver even better customer experiences.

Reporting to the Design team lead, you’ll research and design product initiatives in a dedicated squad and be mentored by senior designers as you work alongside our incredible team of engineers, product managers, UI designers, marketing and your fellow product designers.

A fierce advocate for the customer, you love discovering the cause of a problem and turning the right solution into reality. You thrive in a strong culture of open communication, cross-functional teamwork, hustle to deliver value and respond to the needs of the market, and passion for our mission.

  • Openness to learn from peers and managers, and evolve your design thinking
  • Proven knowledge of tools for prototyping and UI design like Figma, Marvel etc
  • Analytical mind with a business acumen

WHY JOIN?

  • Incredible business, poised for massive growth.
  • You will be making a difference in an enormous market
  • We already have a world class team and you would be working with truly incredible colleagues
  • Your career matters to us. We have a process and practice that will ensure you receive mentoring and coaching from senior designers at Ailo. We know that this is crucial in the development of your career so we want to make sure you know it matters to us
